What is Gunotsav?

A state-wide mission to bring qualitative improvement to school education in Assam — through transparent, data-driven evaluation of every government school.

Gunotsav is a comprehensive census-based evaluation covering all Government, Provincialised, Tea Garden Management Schools, Tea Garden Model Schools, Adarsha Vidyalayas, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and Residential Schools across Assam.

Children from Class I to IX are assessed. The evaluation is entirely OMR-based, ensuring objectivity and uniformity across all 48,000+ schools. 100% of schools are evaluated — no school is left out.

Schools are graded on performance as A+, A, B, C and D based on weighted area scores. The grading system gives 10% weightage in Annual Examinations, making Gunotsav an integral part of the State Academic Calendar.

🏛️ Senior government officials — including Ministers, MLAs, IAS, IPS and IFS officers — serve as External Evaluators, spending an entire school day observing, guiding and submitting confidential improvement reports.

Four Areas of Assessment

Gunotsav evaluates schools across four broad dimensions — three of which contribute directly to school grading.

Scholastic (Learning Outcomes)

Core academic assessment of student learning — the primary driver of school grades, covering all subjects taught from Class I to IX.

5%

Co-Scholastic & Other Areas

Evaluation of extracurricular development, arts, sports and overall student well-being beyond core academic achievement.

5%

Community Participation & Contribution

Assessing how actively parents, guardians and local community members engage with and contribute to the school’s functioning.

Infrastructure Availability & Use

Assessment of physical infrastructure and its effective utilisation. Data is collected but not included in school grading.
